I like to take an Holistic approach.  ‘Holistic’ means ‘whole’; so holistic massage is a massage that treats the whole person.  This may mean a deep tissue massage that eases tense and aching muscles, and also helps to eliminate toxins that the body has accumulated.  Alternatively you may prefer the focus of the treatment to be a more gentle healing massage that de-stresses the mind and leaves you feeling refreshed and in a state of deep inner harmony.

Health Benefits of Massage

Why choose massage?  Studies over the past decade confirm that great massage is not only life-enhancing, it’s essential to optimum health.

On a purely physical level, the long smooth strokes used at the beginning of a massage improve the circulation of blood and oxygenation of tissues.  Massage also stimulates the movement of lymphatic fluids that carry toxins away from the body’s cells.  Deeper kneading addresses the pain and soreness in individual muscles by helping to realign the fibres and break down knots, which are caused by the adhesion of muscle fibres and connective tissue with toxins.

Massage also triggers nerve receptors in the skin which cause the brain to release happiness boosting opiates such as serotonin and dopamine.  Mood improves and levels of the stress hormone cortisol fall, along with blood pressure.  Studies also suggest massage can help improve immunity, concentration and memory.  It helps to speed up the process of healing and recovery and reduces drug dependency and stress during illness.

People who experience massage on a regular basis report a lessening or disappearance of their stress-induced symptoms.  Other benefits include better quality of sleep, mental clarity and increased levels of energy and feelings of well-being.
